I’ve never had therapy...why should I try it?
A part of you has taken the time to view my website and is looking for something that can help you in some way. People seek therapy for different reasons. For some, it offers a safe place to feel truly heard and understood; for others it offers a place to learn tools for managing depression and anxiety; a place to improve and deepen your relationship with self and others; a place to get support in times of loss; a place to honor your feelings and identify your dreams; a place that can help ease pain and suffering; a place to learn how to better withstand life’s inherent challenges.
What happens during the first visit?
The first visit is for getting acquainted and consists largely of information gathering. I will explain my office policies and procedures and will ask questions about what brings you to therapy and what changes you would like to see in your life. I will begin to gather information, including a history of what important events and people have played in your life. This is a good opportunity for you to ask any questions and discuss your expectations for therapy. When appropriate, I will provide referrals and resources to supplement the work we do together.

Whether or not you’ve had therapy before, it is helpful to know what to expect from the therapeutic process in general and from the therapist in particular. Here is some information to help orient you to my practice. Feel free to call me at (310)351-2251 if you have any questions or need referrals.
How long is each session?
Each session is 50 minutes. If you are late for your appointment, I am unable to provide you with additional time as it can interfere with another client’s therapy appointment, and for ethical reasons, would be a violation of our professional boundaries.
How much does therapy cost?
My fees are comparable to other therapists in my area. If you are unable to afford my regular fee of $180 per therapy hour, we can discuss a possible adjustment or referral that will enable you to get the help and support you are seeking. I welcome all inquiries and would be happy to make appropriate referrals if needed.
Do you take insurance?
I prefer not to involve third parties in my therapy relationships and therefore do not take insurance. I can provide you with a monthly statement, which you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement.
How does payment work?
Payment is due at the end of each 50 minute session each week. You may pay in cash, check or money order. If paying by check, please have your check already written out prior to the end of the session. If there is a balance of two unpaid sessions, another appointment cannot be scheduled until the balance has been paid.
What if I need to cancel?
If you need to cancel, please do so 24 hours or more before our session, otherwise the full fee will be charged.
What if I need to reach you between sessions?
You may contact me between sessions regarding urgent matters that cannot wait until we meet again. I typically do not charge for brief phone contact unless our conversation exceeds 10 minutes. Phone conversations exceeding 10 minutes will be charged based on your regular fee adjusted by the hour in 15 minute increments. So, if we spend 20 minutes on an emergency phone call, you will be charged for 15 minutes. If you find that you need to make contact between sessions on a regular basis, we will want to consider increasing the number of weekly therapy appointments as a means of support.
